Before you go
Here's everything you need to know.
Best for ages 4 to 10. Younger explorers will want a grown-up reading the missions aloud. Older ones tend to charge off and do the lot themselves.
The mission cards take an afternoon on the beach. Add the online activities and it becomes an all day thing, wind down time included.
You don't have to finish in one go, though. Nothing in the kit expires, so you can save missions for the next visit.
Yes, one kit per explorer. Every child wants their own bag, their own finds and their own cards, and sharing one between two ends in negotiations nobody enjoys.
Bringing a few children? The Crew Pack is a set of three and works out cheaper than three singles. For anything bigger, email us for group rates.
It does. The kit works best at low tide, when there's beach to explore and rock pools to look into. Check the Margate tide times before you set off and aim to arrive as the tide is going out. You'll get the widest beach and the longest run at it.
Everything you need is already in the pack. The activities use what you find on the beach that day, so all you need is the kit, weather-appropriate clothing and your curiosity.
Yes. Every mission is written for Margate beach and the landmarks around it, so the things to spot, the places to look and the finds are all local ones. That's the whole idea: it's made for this beach, not for beaches in general.
What's in the box
And what it's made of.
Every kit has a handpainted treasure box. It's blackboard paint, so it can be drawn on and customised over and over again, and there's no squabbling about whose box is whose.
Inside is a magnifying glass, also in blackboard paint, and three postcards of missions, ranging from Operation Clean Up to beach crafts and treasure hunts.
There are more missions on the website, free to access, with games, challenges and activities. No logins, no apps, just boredom busters whenever you need them.
Cotton bags, a wooden box, and paper postcards with no plastic coating on them. No single use plastics, and no plastic wrapping either. Grab the bag and go.
The one exception is the magnifying glass, which is plastic for now. We're working as hard as we can to source bamboo ones for future packs.
- Postcard Pack, £12.50. The stripped-back version: the bag and the postcard missions, no box or extras.
- Single Kit, £24.00. The full thing, for one explorer.
- Crew Pack, £65.00. Three kits, for three explorers.
Yes. Mention the language you'd like when you place your order and we'll email you a translation of the text on the pack. It's an email to read alongside your kit, not a printed pack.
Yes. Home education groups, parties, holiday clubs and classes are all welcome. Get in touch with how many explorers you've got and we'll sort it out.
Getting your kit
Two ways: through the door, or in person.
Two options when you order:
- Royal Mail. 1st or 2nd class, posted to you.
- Collect at the Clocktower, right by the beach. We'll send you a collection time and a code to show when you arrive. Handy if you're coming down for the day and don't want to wait on the post.
Clocktower collection is usually ready within 90 minutes of your order. It can take longer on busy days, so get your order in early.
Royal Mail orders placed before 1pm are posted the same day. Anything ordered after 1pm goes out the next working day.
Yes. You'll get a confirmation with your order number on it as soon as the order comes through.
Not this year. There's no beach stand for 2026, so kits are sold here on the website. Order ahead and either have it posted or collect it at the Clocktower on your way down.
We want every little explorer to have a great time, so if something isn't right, get in touch and we'll sort it out for you. Email info@margate-seaside-adventure.com or call 0333 335 7815.
Anything else
Yes! We're itching to tell you about them, but we've got to keep it under wraps for now. Give us a follow on socials for updates.
Then ask it. info@margate-seaside-adventure.com and one of Sal and Shelly's helpers will get back to you asap.
One last word from Coral
Grown-ups stay with your explorers, keep an eye on the tide, and put back anything that's still alive. Everything else is fair game.
